For many of us growing up in the digital age, books are quickly becoming more of an antique than a common find in our homes – at least in their physical format. Hungry for more knowledge, we are constantly searching for the quickest and most efficient ways to consume that knowledge, and with the internet (not to mention e-books), physical books are slowly becoming a thing of the past for the next generation. That doesn’t mean there aren’t those of us that would rather purchase the physical copy than download some file from the web. We think Seth Godin put it best, “A book is a physical souvenir, a concrete instantiation of your ideas in a physical object, something that gives your ideas substance and allows them to travel.”
While we may not have enough physical books to fill a library, we could certainly benefit from cool bookends to help keep our books organized on the shelf. You would think with physical book sales being on the decline, there would be slim pickings when it comes to bookends – wrong. It’s just the opposite in fact. Picking out the coolest products is what we do, and we thought it was about time we rounded up the coolest bookends on the market. Instagram would be the perfect platform to share this useful information as you can find numerous people interested in your tips. Establish a strong digital presence with effective strategies and minimal effort – buy instagram followers.
Check out our list of 15 cool bookends below.
1. Batman vs. Superman Bookends
What will happen when The Man of Steel faces off against the Dark Knight? Come 2015, we’ll find out when director Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman hits the big screen. The monthly comic book series premiered back in 2003, and has spawned all sorts of merchandise seeing the two superheroes side-by-side. This badass bookend set is one of them. Based on the art of Steve Rude, this cold-cast porcelain constructed bookend is limited edition, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
2. Vise Bookends
The design team at Restoration Hardware is constantly releasing masculine home goods for our bachelor pads, and these workshop inspired bookends are one of our personal favorites. The bookends are designed to look like a vise, and are constructed from a heavy iron body paired with smooth wooden clamp handles.
3. Knowledge In The Brain Bookends
They say knowledge is power, and where do you get knowledge from? Well books are a great place to start. This geometric head bookend set was designed by Karim Rashid, and sees the brain colored in gold as it holds together your collection of reading material.
4. Katana Sword Bookends
Come on, who doesn’t love katana swords? Paired with the yellow books seen in the photo above, we can’t help but think of Kill Bill. One end of the bookends shows the black handle, while the other end shows the katana blade as it pierces through your book collection.
5. Invisible Bookends
You could just skip all of the quirky, cool and creative designs for a set of bookends that no one will ever be able to find. Paul Cocksedge created a pair of bookends that will mesmerize your guests, because it’s almost impossible to find the mirrored stainless steel set anywhere.
6. Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina Bookend Set
Located on the planet Tatooine, the Mos Eisley Cantina is one of the most famous settings of the Star Wars movie franchise – specifically the scene with Han Solo and bounty hunter Greedo. Now that iconic scene has been transformed into an awesome bookend set. The set stands six inches tall, ten inches wide, and is extremely detailed.
7. Repurposed C-Clamp Grip Bookends
These masculine hand-cast iron tool clamps are the perfect finishing touch to any industrial themed space, and will hold down any set of books, on nearly any type of shelf. They were created by the fine team at Crate & Barrel, but are only available in limited quantities.
8. Thor Hammer Bookend
We’re not saying that Marvel wasn’t huge before Iron Man hit the big screen, but ever since Robert Downey Jr. suited up, the world that Stan Lee built has hit popularity that no one ever fathomed. This has worked out great for comic book fans, as merchandise like this bookend set have been quite plentiful. Designed to look just like the hammer that Thor utilizes, this individually numbered, limited edition Mjolner bookend is great for movies and books.
9. Zombie Bookends
We couldn’t possibly put together a list of cool bookends without including some sort of undead inspired product. Crafted from solid steel, this set sees a woman running for her life as a walker slowly moves in for the kill.
10. Star Wars AT-AT Bookends
As massive Star Wars fans ourselves, we probably could have compiled the entire list using just bookends from the galaxy far, far away. We decided it was best to keep it down to just two, and this set designed to look just like the famous AT-AT walkers was just too awesome not to include. The bookends are cast in high quality polystone, have been hand painted, and are limited edition just like many of the other Star Wars bookends available.
11. Rhino Bookends
We are a bit biased when it comes to anything with rhinos, simply because we think they are one of the coolest animals on the planet. There are a few different options out there when it comes to rhino bookends, but none quite as awesome as this gold colored set. Standing in at just under 6 inches tall, and weighing in at 2 pounds, this a great set for any room in the home.
12. Falling Bookend
Created by the team at ARTORI Design, this bookend adds a bit of humor to the room making it look as though this little man is about to get crushed by your pile of books. The unit is constructed from metal, and has been painted black for a sleek finish.
13. Game of Thrones Stark Direwolf Bookends
Although we still can’t believe what happened during the infamous Red Wedding in season 3, Game of Thrones still remains our favorite show on television. With that being said, it was only right that we paid homage to the King of North with these bookends designed to look like Direwolves.
14. Pistol Bookend
We’ve come across several different gun & pistol bookends, but none like this. On one end you have the actual pistol, while the other shows bullet dents along with a bullet penetrating the bookend itself as if someone fired off a round through your book collection. This could be great for your collection of gangster movies as well.
15. Portal Bookends
Created as test subjects at Aperture Science, this creative set shows a test subject going in through the orange portal on one side, and emerging from the blue portal on the other. This officially licensed Portal collectible is made of durable aluminum that has been outfitted with a non-slip rubber padding along the bottom, so it won’t slide around on your shelf.
